To date in the 2020 regular Louisiana legislative session, GICC is advocating for legislation in three primary areas:

Support of the Oil and Gas Industry- to help ensure that Louisiana's opportunities for oil and gas rebound are as solid as other states reducing misguided lawsuits (SB359)

Workforce Development- Clearing Barriers to Additional Higher Education Credentialing- by prohibiting post-secondary institutions from withholding academic transcripts for debt collection purposes, for adults desiring to improve career and job training, thereby better providing for their families and supporting communities.

The 55 by 25 educational attainment initiative, being championed by One Acadiana is focused on supporting adult learners and reducing barriers to degree and credential completion. This initiative and the Iberia Work Ready Communities Initiative, a pilot project for Acadiana, partner well together; therefore, the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce is advocating for this bill, by Rep. Julie Emerson. (HB 676)

This bill has broad bipartisan support including: One Acadiana, GNO Inc., LABI, Louisiana Budget Project, the Pelican Institute, CABL, the UL System, LCTCS, and the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Reduction of the Cost of Motor Vehicle Insurance- by legislation in regard to civil law and insurance policies. (SB418)
