Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce CEO, Janet Faulk-Gonzales announced today that at the regular March meeting of its Board of Directors, members voted unanimously to support the ten-year tax renewal for maintenance and operations put forth by the Iberia Parish School System.

The decision to support the renewal was made after the board heard a presentation by Iberia Parish School Board Superintendent, Carey Laviolette and staff members Bobby Norris and Wayne Landry at its February meeting. Following the February meeting, board members had the opportunity to continue to seek any clarification necessary and to ask any additional questions for the month between the two meetings.

The funds generated by the tax renewal are dedicated for school and building roof repairs, electrical additions and maintenances, plumbing upkeep, grounds maintenance, HVAC repairs and garbage disposal. The 6.15 mills generates approximately $3.7M per year. This tax is up for renewal every ten years. It is not a new tax. The Chamber encourages voter registration and a vote in favor of the proposed renewal which is on the May 4th ballot.

The Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce has been advocating for local industry, promoting small business, and helping to design business polices since 1939. Lead by a twenty-one-member volunteer board which directs the Chamber’s mission of improving the business environment so members grow and prosper, the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce contributes to the economic prosperity of the community which ultimately enhances the quality of life.
