The Fire Starter Project, a leadership program for high school students in Iberia Parish is set to show young leaders how they can impact their community. Sixteen high school juniors, one male and one female from each school as well as 4 at-large additional students, enrolled in public or private high schools in Iberia Parish were nominated to participate by administrators from each of their respective schools.  The year-long program aims to provide learning experiences in leadership, communication skills, team-building, and networking.  Participants will take part in monthly seminars and/or field trips to develop skills as future leaders of their community.
Based off of the Leadership Iberia program started by the Chamber in 1997, this 12-month program is the brainchild of former Leadership alumni who see a need for engaging students of the parish in their community. The Fire Starter Project board, made up of a mix of business, education, healthcare, and non-profit professionals, have created a program that they hope will provide not only insight for the students into their own communities but to observe and experience the effects of positive engagement in the world around them.
